Walter Scott works closely with several top sites in the Willamette Valley, and Freedom Hill is one of the anchors of that program. The vineyard sits on the slopes of an ancient, uplifted seabed in Polk County where Bellpine soil drains quickly and produces firm and concentrated fruit. The Dusschee family farms the site organically, and without irrigation. Walter Scott uses a block that contains a wide range of Chardonnay clones which adds extra dimension. Native yeasts guide fermentation and the wine ages in a mix of mostly neutral oak with a small amount of newer wood. The style is tense and citrus-driven with clear influence from the cool winds that move through the Eola-Amity Hills.
