The General Manager is responsible for leading the daily operations of Verve Wine San Francisco. Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, the General Manager is responsible for modeling the values of Verve Wine and setting the tone for our West Coast operations. They will be active in the day to day management of the Pacific Heights store, the oversight of the San Rafael warehouse, and the broader sales and marketing efforts agreed upon with the corporate team intended to increase local engagement and grow sales.

Leadership:

  • Empowers team members to create exceptional guest experiences.
  • Leads with an “If you see something, say something” approach to providing feedback to all team members.
  • Actively participates in the day-to-day operations of Verve SF.
  • Focuses on the continual improvement of the Verve SF team and guest experience, consistent growth of sales, and rigorous attention to costs and inventory levels.
  • Is keenly aware of the trends in the local market and works to position Verve Wine as a leader in the neighborhood and the city. 

Daily Responsibilities: 

  • Accurately receives inventory and regularly reviews/audits the shop inventory according to the retail inventory schedule.
  • Maintains the appearance and good working order of all equipment at the store and warehouse.
  • Is customer facing, interacting with walk-in customers, answering the phone, and setting the tone for customer interaction by all team members.
  • Is proactive in sales lead generation and funneling opportunities to the appropriate channels.
  • Manage the Shopify order queue, delegating packing and fulfillment to store team members.
  • Assists in stocking of shelves during the day and table service in the evening.
  • Completes all assigned daily reporting.
  • Is constantly looking for new ways to improve the Verve Wine brand, including but not limited to: planning and tracking weekly in-store events; actively soliciting private events on site and looking for opportunities to offer Verve Wine experiences off-site; utilizing Verve’s digital presence to drive additional revenue.
  • Coordinates with the marketing team on digital content, marketing initiatives, customer acquisition, loyalty programs and initiatives. 

Business Acumen and Compliance:

  • Is aware of and takes a proactive approach to managing prime costs with an eye on the daily, weekly, monthly and annual projections and budgets.
  • Manages schedule to fit within budget. Is forward thinking in scheduling adjustments, anticipating ebb and flow of business. 
  • Utilizes the weekly forecast to build a sound operating and purchasing budget for the week
  • Coordinates purchasing with the Director of Operations and the Retail Sales Lead.
  • Leads an effective daily meeting with store team members.
  • Ensure that HR practices are consistent with Verve Wine values and compliant with all local, state and federal laws.
  • Leads a best-in-class approach to cleanliness, safety, sanitation, and food safety.
  • Possesses a working understanding of all Verve Wine operational systems. 
  • Takes on new areas of responsibility in order to build mastery level knowledge. 

Employee Development: 

  • Works directly with the training team members in order to create a talent pipeline.
  • Leads the interview process of all hourly team members.
  • Ensures that operational and training standards are consistently followed and executed.
  • Leads the behavior that creates a safe and enriching work place for all employees
  • Provides feedback and corrective action in order to hold hourly team members accountable to Verve Wine values, goals, and standards.
  • Leads and fosters a store culture that promotes employee development and coaching on a daily basis.

  • Assists in the monthly fulfillment of The Grand Tour, the Verve Wine branded wine club.

  • Kneel, bend, or stoop, ascend or descend stairs; be on feet for extended amounts of time

Prefered Experience:

  • 2 years experience in a Management Position in a restaurant, retail, or other hospitality focused environment.
  • Has a strong foundational knowledge of wine, particularly rooted in the classic wines of classic regions.
  • Proven track record overseeing operations with a staff of 10 or more employees.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Well versed in industry specific labor laws.
  • Proficient in a variety of technology systems, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Workspaces, Payroll, Scheduling, POS, and COGS Systems.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills are essential, as well as the ability to effectively train, coach, evaluate, and discipline employees.
