Font du Loup has been in the same family since 1942, and sits on a cooler and more elevated part of Châteauneuf du Pape. The estate’s name comes from a natural spring once believed to attract wolves. Today it is run by Anne Charlotte Mélia Bachas and her husband Laurent, who maintain organic farming and a light touch in the cellar. The vineyards are planted mostly on deep sandy soils that give the wines natural lift and a more aromatic style.
Their red wines are centered on old-vine Grenache with support from Syrah and Mourvèdre. Harvesting is done by hand and fermentation takes place in concrete to preserve purity. Aging continues in concrete and older large-format barrels which avoids heavy oak influence. The result is a graceful and lively Châteauneuf du Pape with fresh red fruit, gentle spice, and a refined finish that reflects the estate’s terroir.
