Château Coutet, a classified Premier Cru of 1855, is one of Barsac’s crown jewels. Often called the most fresh and racy of Bordeaux’s sweet wines, Coutet shows the lighter side of botrytis compared to the opulence of Sauternes just across the river. The 2001 vintage, one of the great harvests for sweet Bordeaux, is now in full bloom: layers of apricot, orange marmalade, saffron, and toasted almond glide over Coutet’s signature spine of acidity. To pair, consider blue cheese, foie gras, roasted nuts, or savor solo.
