Mayacamas was founded in 1889 on Mount Veeder, and is one of Napa’s most historic estates. The vineyards sit between 1,800 and 2,100 feet in a combination of volcanic ash, gravel, and clay soils. Farming has been organic since 2013. Chardonnay grapes are hand picked and whole cluster pressed before fermenting in mostly neutral oak barrels. Aging lasts more than a year with only a small portion in new oak (typically 10%). Malolactic fermentation is blocked here, which keeps the wine focused and bright. The style is structured and refined with floral notes, citrus, and a long mineral core that reflects its mountain origin.
