Pax Mahle has become a legend in Sonoma County. His single-vineyard Syrahs and emphasis on lesser-known varieties have led him to create some of the most thought-provoking and delicious wines to come out of all of California. This limited-production release originates from the Armagh Vineyard in one of the coldest sections of the Petaluma Wind Gap. This old block decreases in yield every vintage, so this is truly a get-it-while-you can bottle of wine. Complex dark fruit, spice, herbal notes, and smoke make for a brooding sip, but some cellar time should soften it a bit.
