Charles Ballot took over this family estate in 2001 and now cultivates vines across 5 Premier Cru sites in Meursault. Under Charles’ reign, yields were lowered and chemicals were eliminated. Wines are native-yeast fermented and aging is done in wood. Fruit for ‘Charmes’ comes from 30-year-old vines rooted in clay limestone soils. The wine ages for 12 months in barrel (20% of which is new) with little to no batonnage, followed by six months of aging in tank. Notes of white stone fruit, citrus, and baking spice dominate this medium-bodied wine.
